Year Three

Welcome to Year 3!

A very warm welcome to the Year 3 class homepage at UPAW! My name is Mrs Birch and I am the class teacher. Mrs O' Sullivan is the teaching assistant for this class and we both look forward to the exciting activities that we have planned for the year ahead. Year 3 begins the journey into the Juniors, and we aim to make the transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 comfortable and exciting. Before looking at the next half term ahead, I would just like to make you aware of what you will find on this class page. Here you will find the weekly homework, a break down of what we will be covering over each half term and our class newsletter, so you can find out what we have been up to in the week.

Over the next half term, we have some fanatastic activities going on. In Literacy, we will be writing friendship stories using The Lone Robot as our inspiration. The children will have an opportunity to design and make their own clay robot! In Maths, we will be looking at place value, with a paraticular focus on adding and subtracting. Our topic for this half term is Marvellous Me! The children will be learning about themselves and their environment.

Keep an eye out for a more detailed breakdown of the activities we will be completing throughout the next half term!

Take a look at our current newsletter!

In Literacy, we have begun to look at our work on The Lone Robot. We watched the video and we talked about how the robot was feeling and we discussed what we thought he needed the most. All of the children decided that robot needed a friend, which led us to discuss what friendship is and what it means to us. We have planned our friendship story, and the children have come up with some fantastic ideas. For Art, we have made and painted our clay robots. They all look brilliant! Keep an eye out for photos!

The children have begun to build on the work that they have learnt in Year 2 in preparation for the maths work that they will complete in Year 3. The children have begun to revist number bonds to 10 and 100, doubling, adding 9 and 11 to a number and adding 3 numbers together. The children have also worked hard on place value.

In Science, we have begun on our new topic on plants. The children have discussed what they know already about plants and have written and discussed what they would like to know about plants.

This weeks homework can be found here for you to access. Please remember all homework must be completed and handed in on Thursday. Daily reading is also part of the weekly homework. Please make sure your child's reading diary is signed each day.
