Year One

Please feel free to read our weekly newsletter.

Welcome to Year 1!

Thank you for sending in the Sloth posters and fact sheets.

This coming week is our last swimming so don't forget your kits. The children are trying really hard in the pool during their lessons.

We have now finished our phonic screening tests, well done to all of the children.

Welcome back to the final half term in Year One.

By now your child will know who their new teacher is going to be in September. They will also know who else is going to be in their class and where their classroom will be.  We will be doing lots of exciting transition activities over the coming weeks in preparation for September.

Phonic Screening is almost upon us, continue to read everything you can and get that last minute practise in.

Don't forget we are going swimming on Thursday's and your child will need their swimming kit in school on that day.

We have been using this website to help us practise our phonics through interactive games.  Why don't you click on the link and have a go?

Welcome back to Year 1, we hope you had an enjoyable Easter and are ready to learn.

We have lots of exciting things planned for this half term including our weekly visits to the library and hopefully some special visitors. (Shh!)

We went to the library last Wednesday (thank you to the parents that came with us). Jill in the library explained how the library works and what it is for.  She then helped some of the children borrow books with their library cards.  Here are a couple of photos from our visit.

We hope you had a great holiday and managed to 'Get caught reading!' in some exciting places! World Book Day is this Thursday 1st March, don't forget to come to school in a Harry Potter themed costume!!!

Our topic this term is 'The Titanic' and we have lots of exciting activities planned.

February 2018

Year 1 & Year 2 visit St Mary’s Church and the Northwich Mosque as part of their Religious Studies

During their Religious Education lessons this half term, Year 1 and 2 children have been looking at different places of worship.

In order to bring this learning to life a visit to visit St Mary's Church in Weaverham was arranged where the Vicar, Mr Andrew Brown, explained more about the church and gave them a guided tour of the grounds. Mr Brown explained further about the practices which take place in the church and gave them some history behind the building.

Pupils then had the opportunity to visit Northwich Mosque, on Church Road, which is actually run by the uncle of a pupil Year 2. During their visit to the mosque the children were shown around the two prayer rooms and the washing facilities before listening to an explanation of Islam and how the Mosque is used by its community members.

Stockley Farm Visit - December 2017

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying the Year One children on a trip to Stockley Farm. We had a fantastic day and even got to meet Father Christmas! They had a tractor and trailer ride, made reindeer food and calendars and bottle fed baby goats!
